What is Language Arts?
Language Arts is the term used to include all areas of communicating in English
whether written or spoken. In school the subject areas include reading, writing,
spelling, and grammar.
In third grade, students are presented with a wide, rich variety of texts that are
read to, listened to, read by, or viewed by students and then discussed. Third
grade students are expected to engage actively in language activities involving
text as they continue to grow as fluent readers and writers.
Your child will be learning specific rules for identifying all of the parts of speech
including: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, pronouns, conjunctions,
and interjections.
